Clare Welch

Clare holds a B.A. in Music, Vocal Performance, from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Her formal musical background began at a young age on the viola, eventually leading to performances with the Cal Poly Symphony. Her vocal studies led to international choral performances abroad, as well as featured roles across opera, musical theater, choral stagings, and solo appearances. Honored for vocal excellence with both the Cal Poly Music Department Memorial Award and the Moon Ja Minn and Paul Suhr Opera Award, she also began formal piano studies during her degree. She has since continually expanded her skills across solo piano repertoire and student accompaniment.

Throughout nearly five years of private teaching, Clare has centered her practice on adaptable, student-centered instruction. She believes that sound technical mechanics serve as the foundation for every genre, whether classical, musical theater, or contemporary. By tailoring lesson pieces directly to each learner’s musical tastes, she fosters natural curiosity, genuine motivation to practice, and performance confidence. Teaching and guiding musicians of all ages and skill levels is her calling, and she is thrilled to bring her supportive, student-first approach to the conservatory.
